Pygmalion and Galatea
A young sculptor named Pygmalion had convinced himself women were weak and flawed by nature and no matter how hard they tried to overcome their flaws, it wouldn't work. He believed never to get married and to always live alone. Pygmalion began working on a sculpture of a young women. As his work progressed, he became more and more devoted to the sculpture. He then began to fall in love with his creation. Pygmalion showered the sculpture with gifts. He complimented her, dressed her in dresses, and put her in bed. All of this went on until the honoring of Venus's famous birth from the sea foam. Pygmalion surprisingly took part in this festival. He urgently begged Venus to help him find a wife that was as amazingly perfect as his sculpture. Even though he doubted such a women existed. Luckily for Pygmalion, Venus granted his prayer. Later when Pygmalion went home, he went up to his sculpture and touched it. He expected to feel a cold and hard statue but instead felt warm flesh. Pygmalion realized this was Venus's work . He was extremely grateful and thanked her many many times. Venus was pleased and when they had gotten married, she attended it. As time passed the lovers had a daughter they named Paphos.
